Go down to your local Pro Audio shop. They will be able to walk you through what you need for what you are trying to accomplish.

How many musical instruments can a person learn at one time?

Posted by admin on February 7th, 2010

Without getting too caught up, with leftover free time, and with enough time spent on each to learn it properly.
And I mean a regular person with only an hour or so of free time in the evenings, but around 5 hours of free time on Saturdays and Sundays.
I’m just wondering, because I play the flute, and am learning the guitar, but would also like to learn the piano and several other instruments. Do you think I would be able to find some kind of balance?

Depends on your definition of "properly". If your hour of free time per day doesn’t include practicing the two instruments you already play, then you already don’t have enough time to be good at the ones you play. Half an hour a day is enough to be okay, but not enough to be great.

There are lots of instruments where learning one gives you a huge step up in learning another. Clarinettists often play bass clarinet too. Recorder players play all the sizes. If you like variety rather than always practicing one instrument, you might consider one of those. As a flautist, how about piccolo?

Will the Guitar Hero World Tour for Wii go on sale for the Holidays?

Posted by admin on February 7th, 2010

I need to get one for my son! I am in SWFL and so far they are still at Walmart for $189.00…. any suggestions?

Should I get it this weekend or wait?

If your talking about a price cut, you won’t see one before Xmas, you may get lucky and see a price drop on Black Friday, but after that Im sure they will stay at the $189.00. If you are wanting a "band" game before Xmas, GHWT is the only option, unfortunately Rock Band 2 for the Wii will not be out until December 30th.

Can you connect 1 guitar to 2 combo amps?

Posted by admin on February 7th, 2010

I’m planning to make a jack that has 2 inputs.

will this work? or will it mess up the amp or guitar.

need someone with experience

Benny’s suggestion is valid, but if you want a little more versatility then you might want to look at an A/B or A/B/Y switch. This will let you turn on each amp individually or run them together.

That’s an entry-level box. The better ones will have transformer isolation between the two outputs to prevent ground loops:

And of course, the sky’s the limit. Some will also incorporate signal boost and programmability:

But, at least this gives you an idea of what’s out there.

Just be sure to plug both amps into the same power strip to minimize the ground loop. But splitting the guitar to 2 amps is no big deal and won’t mess up anything.

Good luck.

Can you recommend a good 5 watt or less tube guitar amp?

Posted by admin on February 7th, 2010

I’m looking for a good tube (valve) guitar amp for home us and some light jamming. I’d prefer 5w or less, and don’t really want to spend more than $750. It can be either a head or combo.

I’m a beginning guitarist, and play blues, 60’s pop, and some rockabilly. NO METAL!
I’m cosidering the Blackheart Little Giant and the Epiphone Valve Junior. Any others?

I just bought an Epiphone Valve Jr, and I love it. It even sounds good through my Marshall stack, without any pedals or other junk that I’ll be playing through it. =)

Have you heard the Fender Champ? That might be a way to go. Their rep is that they’re pretty clean, but sweet. Might be what you’re looking for, but then again, you might want to throw a Tubescreamer into the mix….

what cheap electric guitar would be ideal for alternative music?

Posted by admin on February 7th, 2010

im not looking to spend alot but i want a electric guitar i can use in my band which plays alternative and a little rock so my price range stops at about 400 bucks

Check out http://rondomusic.com/

They have some nice guitars for low prices.

I always wanted to buy an acoustic guitar and finally getting around to buying it? What is a beginner guitar?

Posted by admin on February 7th, 2010

I have absolutely very little to no musical talent, I can read music and that’s about it, but I really want to learn the guitar.

Thanx

I would recommend going into a music shop and explaining to them that you are a beginner and ask what they would recommend. Also ask to try out whatever they recommend. A full sized accoustic is a good base to start on.

In rockband how do you get it so there will be a bass player? 2 guitars hooked up but wont let me play bass?

Posted by admin on February 7th, 2010

So, i have been trying to get 4 players active on rockband. I’ve hooked up two guitars, one guitar from the rockband package and another guitar from the game guitar hero, but it wont let me play as the bass player when i am trying to have four players.

If you are using an XBOX 360 then it might be a cable issue. However if you are on he PS3 then you are outta luck. The Guitar Hero controller for the PS3 is not compatible with RockBand.

Would it enhance my acoustic guitar recordings to use a mic AND an acoustic pick-up at the same time?

Posted by admin on February 7th, 2010

I want a more professional sound from my acoustic guitar recordings. It’s not a bad sounding guitar, it’s a hummingbird. What’s the best way to record it? Would throwing in an acoustic pick-up and micing it give it a better sound in the recording? What should I do?

Professional studio recordings use very high grade mics a short distance off of the 12th fret. This will pick up some of the nice overtones to help your sound. The answer to this question depends on what kind of mic and studio space you have. Mics are a lot more trouble but are used more frequently in a studio setting. Using your guitar’s pickup might be a little more practical and sound okay if you’re using a good DI.
The best thing to do, since there are so many variables here is to both mic and hook up your guitar and record them into 2 separate channels. See which one you like better, and you could even mix them together to get the sound you want. Don’t forget to slap a little reverb on there to smooth things out.
