I want to make a good recording studio. What is good equipment/software to get?

Posted by admin on November 28th, 2009

I am a singer and want to make this in my home. Please name some good software and equipment that I’ll need.

it depends do you play a instrument and want to record it as a backing track while you sing or do you want to use the fake instruments that come of the software

when i first started i used the program called magix music maker
where you can record with a mic and adjust the way you sound after recording and it has a piano and guitar that you can play on the KeyBoard with and a drum machine where you can pick what sound you want to make and play it but you cant plug in real Instruments in it
cause ive tried and cant figure the midi cord out on it but its a great
software to start out on

now im using adobe audition where you can use a mic and plug in instruments to record and comes with a cd that has hundreds of sounds of drums and guitar and bass and piano to choose from
and it works alot better

i recomend getting adobe audition if your a singer who play a instrument and wants to record it and if you to lazy to make your own beat or drums or sounds and just want to take stuff off the cd and cram it into a track than use adobe audition

but magix music maker is a software that if you dont have a instrument you can play what you want on the keyboard and record your voice

God’s Musical instruments-Why and how did the organ become associated with the church and God?

Posted by admin on November 28th, 2009

How did the organ become associated with God and how did it get to become a holy musical instrument?

It was invented in Quebec *for* the church by Joseph Casavant. He was a blacksmith studying to be a priest.

Is Learning the Guitar online the same as having a real life teacher?

Posted by admin on November 28th, 2009

Well I plan on getting a guitar but is online free lessons the same as a real life teacher just to learn the basics…maybe when I get into more complex stuff i will get a real life teacher…but is online good or no?

And is online good for complex things or no?

Thank you
<3

There isn’t any substitute for a real live person to give you feedback. How will you know if you’re doing something wrong…poor finger positioning, too tight a grip on the pick, little things like that? This doesn’t necessarily mean you need a teacher, but at least a mentor. There is so much information on the web that you can get information overload, and also perhaps not learn things in the right order.

A good approach would be to have a friend who could give you a few tips and steer you in the right direction. Then you can use the online lessons to augment your learning process. I wish I had that resource when I was learning 45 years ago.

Which country singer had a song called "This Guitar Is For Sale" ?

Posted by admin on November 28th, 2009

I can’t remember the exact name of the song for some reason it just popped into my head yesterday whilst I was cleaning the kitchen. Weird Huh ?

Bobby Bare

This guitar is for sale, I’ll let her go cheap
She’s pretty to look at but she don’t earn her keep
She can roar like the west wind, she can weep, she can wail
But the tunes that she plays just ain’t sellin’ today
This guitar is for sale.

She lay close beside me on cold winter nights
She’s got me in trouble and she won me some fights
We both come out all right
She knows all the sad songs that Hank ever wrote
Just touch her once gently and she’ll take you on home
She’ll tell you some stories ’bout junk yards and jails
And a fool with a song and a dream that went wrong
This guitar is for sale.

She’s rode cross this country on freight trains and trucks
On ’round pawnshop windows when we’re down on our luck
We been down on our luck
So please treat her kind, keep her out of the rain
It’s funny you’re askin’, I never gave her a name
But if you say she looks weary, you been readin’ our mail
So if you got the dough buddy take her and go
This guitar is for sale.

She’s won me some ladies with her sweet lovin’ songs
And she’s stuck right here with me when the ladies were gone
And the ladies are gone
But hard times and trouble been doggin’ our tail
So if you got the dough buddy take her and go
This guitar is for sale…

How do you connect two guitar amps together for a stereo effect.?

Posted by admin on November 28th, 2009

I have a Vox Valvetronix 30 watt. I have a Fender Blues Deluxe 40 watt.

You can use a 2-way splitter for 1/4" jacks, which gives you two outputs from a single one.

What is the best guitar/amp I can get together for $200-500?

Posted by admin on November 28th, 2009

I have been playing for about 6 months now and I have a Peavy Raptor Plus guitar and a Silvertone Smart III. I like them, but I would like something better. I like to play classic rock, rockabilly, blues, and sometimes punk or metal. What is the best guitar and amp can I get for $200-500? Thanks for your help!
The Silvertone Smart III is the amp, sorry I forgot to put that ;-)

Have you checked out any tube amps? While stock tube amps arent the greatest for metal, they are an industry standard for classic rock, blues, country, rockabilly.. etc. An amp thats slamming the market right now is the Blackheart amps. 5 watt tube amp, with 12 inch speaker in a combo amp is 279. (Tube head and single 12 cab is 299) Dont let the 5 watts fool you…. 5 watts of tube power is more like 30-40 in solid state. Another, 399 bucks, is the Crate V1812. 18 watt Class A tube amp, reverb, and 12 inch speaker. I just bought one, and this amp is outstanding for recording, plus, again the tube power. This 18 watt amp will keep up with any 60 watt solid state amp out there.

I would highly discourage any "modeling amps." If you ever plan on taking to the stage, the presets for various amps are useless in a professional setting. They are very inconsistent in volume levels from pre-set to pre-set. Same with onboard effects. While some of the pros use these, keep in mind that these are highly modified amps from what you see on display at your local Guitar Center. The Fender Blues Jr. is also another good tube amp to keep in mind. Get a decent amp now, research what your favorite blues and classic rock guitarist are using in their pedal chain, and add a pedal here and there over time.

A decent guitar for about 270 is the Epiphone Dot Studio. Because they are not some of Epiphones better quality guitars, take someone who knows what to look for if you want to check one of these out. Things such as fit and finish of the guitar, and most important, the neck and frets, wouldnt hurt to have someone go over it with a fine tooth comb.

Another option would be a Squire.(not the Affinity model) While im not particularily fond of them, ive seen some very decent ones. Again, hit and miss on the quality of these.

Last, and certainly not least, the Schector Omen 6 is a very playable and decent quality guitar for about 300 bucks. Seems like what you have now is not to bad for playing for just 6 months. Might be worth your time to save a little longer, and spend 100-150 more on guitar and amp and have higher quality gear that will last a lot longer.

Most important…. Keep Playing!

Does anyone know where i can buy a cheap electric guitar?

Posted by admin on November 28th, 2009

I am looking to buy an electric guitar, but not looking to spend that much; does anyone know where i can buy a unique, some what personalised electric guitar??

Unique and personalised, you might have a problem finding it cheap unless you know someone willing to sell it to you cheaply.

you could search around on ebay :) there are plenty for under 70 quid
but personalised ones will be alot more.
what you could do, is invest in some nice stickers, and spray paint and templates and get a plain guitar and customize yourself.
otherwise, some music shops sell fairly cheap ones.

good luck :) i’m looking for a cheap, unique bass as well

What gauge guitar strings should I buy for my Epiphone DR-90 Acoustic Guitar?

Posted by admin on November 28th, 2009

I’ve read many times that for beginners light gauge strings are better, but I’ve also read that some gauge guitar strings may not be "compatible" with certain guitars. I don’t want to buy guitar strings that aren’t going to work on my guitar. Can someone please help clarify this for me? I don’t know where else to turn.

.010 are the best way to go. Anything heavier you will need to adjust the intonation, truss rod etc. Lighter strings are ok to use but don’t ring as clear as .010’s. It’s a matter of preference while keeping in mind your intonation can be greatly affected by too light or too heavy a guage.

whats the difference between fretless and normal bass guitars?

Posted by admin on November 28th, 2009

I was looking into buying a Fender Jazz bass, and I could get one normal or fretless, so what’s the difference?
I know one doesn’t have frets and one does, but what’s the actual difference as far as tone or note range or whatever.

One has no frets. THus the term "fretless"
