can you use a guitar amp to connect a preamp to a passive speaker?

Posted by admin on June 30th, 2010

I have a Behringer XENTX 802 mixer with two microphone preamp’s and a First Act guitar amp. Can I connect the mixer to the amp and then to some passive speakers?

The guitar amp has a speaker built in – why do you need to add more speakers? Otherwise your plan will work.

Home-studio recording equipment help?

Posted by admin on June 28th, 2010

So I’m trying to put together all the gear I need to record at home, at a semi-pro level. I have a good ear and can hear the difference between crap and quality, so I’m hoping to go a little higher than entry level.

I’ll most likely be using some form of logic btw.

Interface/preamp: M-Audio MobilePre usb interface
Microphone: Not positive, but for the price I’m liking the CAD GXL2200S (package with GXL1200)

I just got myself a nice taylor guitar and I will be getting a macbook pro

I’m up for suggestions, but with the stuff above, I’ve managed to find the interface and mic set for less than 200, no joke. Thanks!

here is a great article on setting up a home studio – http://www.audioneeds.com/forums/content.php?3-The-Startup-Studio

take a gander at that, i think it’ll help you to set up your studio

What are some guitar amps that have different sound settings?

Posted by admin on June 28th, 2010

I know the line 6 spiders 1 2 3 all have metal, insane, blues, clean and stuff….what are some better amps with those sounds?

I was going to say some line 6’s

But a better brand would be VOX.
Most vox’s already have settings on and they are pretty good, they also let you make your own sounds too (like normal amps).

Id go for a vox :)

Anyone with recording studio/recording equipment knowledge?

Posted by admin on June 25th, 2010

I am looking to start at the very bottom of my recording ambition. Right now I have a Tascam dp-008 portastudio and I am looking to just start with a vocal editing software. I have been looking around and I found that Pro-Tools has a "Vocal Studio" version of their product and I know that Antares-Autotune requires Pro-tools to run. If I purchase just the vocal studio will I be able to run Antares? If anyone knows any information I would love to have your email so I can ask many more questions that I have. Thanks.

simply put……..yes.

feel free to email me but yes the vocal studio will run antares plug ins.

I’m trying to play guitar for change at my garage sale. What style of guitar would appeal to most people?

Posted by admin on June 25th, 2010

I’m 15 and I need some extra cash to pay for a summer camp for young musicians. The people at this garage sale will be of all ages, and I can play pretty much any style at any level. If it helps any, I will be playing a Tele.

play god bless america and the star spangled banner. people know these and will be able to judge you right away. if you play them well you will make money. if you don’t you won’t.

Is it OK to play a bass guitar through a guitar amp?

Posted by admin on June 25th, 2010

I’ve got a VOX 50 watt combo guitar amp , one of the newer modelling ones not a valuable old classic one. Would it damage the electrics if I played a bass guitar through it at low, bedroom-type volume? I know I’ll have to watch the speaker but at low volumes will it do any damage to the input section?
I’ve had a keyboard going through it before and it seemed OK.

Yeah it should be fine. The only thing that could blow the amp is if you cranked the volume. But the same thing would happen with a guitar plugged in. Just don’t crank the volume because it might blow easier if a bass was going through it.
