Ordering guitars online?

Posted by admin on June 22nd, 2010

I really want this epiphone les paul that they sell at this store nearby my house, but i don’t have enough money to buy it. it costs 500$ at the store, but i found this website called sweetwater.com, and i found that epiphone les paul and it only costs 300$. i have 300$, and i’m thinking about ordering it online, but i always hear bad things about ordering instruments online. like they arrive broken, missing strings, etc. it says free 2-year warrentee, lifetime tech support, and free shipping. sounds kinda fishy, but i really want this guitar. should i wait a little more and make 500$ and buy the one at the store?

here’s the link : http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/ENBHSCH/

I’ve been ordering from Sweetwater for years now, they’re a great company you can trust. I’ve never ordered a guitar from them, but if you have any problems with the instrument on arrival I trust the company would get you sorted out just fine. I have however ordered 2 electric guitars, 1 acoustic, 1 violin and 1 trumpet from musiciansfriend.com over the years. If you’ve ever heard of the chain Guitar Center, it’s the same company. All instuments arrived in perfect condition, didn’t need to make any adjustments at all.

What is a good acoustic guitar to buy for beginners?

Posted by admin on June 22nd, 2010

I want to teach myself the acoustic guitar over the summer, and want to buy a relatively inexpensive one…either secondhand off ebay or, if it’s cheap enough, from a music store.
Any good starter guitars that you’d recommend? And reasons would be good as well, please

It is really good and cheap. If you are teaching yourself, I reccomend getting a guitar tuner because the guitars can get off tune.

What is the best category to ask questions about musical instruments?

Posted by admin on June 19th, 2010

I don’t know if there is a specific category for it…I’ve looked and I can’t find one. What category would work best for getting good answers on questions about musical instruments?

where to buy guitars online?

Posted by admin on June 19th, 2010

im trying to buy my first guitar, and theres no guitar/music shops in or near my town.. that i no of. so is there any good trusted websites where i can buy a guitar online? and is it a good idea to buy a guitar online? or should buying a guitar be like buying cloths xD lmao, like, u gotta be there in person to see if u like it..

i think i can really help you. selecting a first guitar is something you will eater be thrilled that you made the right choice or really annoyed with wanting something better or different. i would diffidently say buying a guitar online is better than buying from a store because then it hasn’t been played and perhaps damaged by 10,000 people. though i would recommend trying out the guitar you are looking at first it seems in your situation that really isnt an option. i would say that you should watch videos of whatever guitar you like and decide if you like it based on that. if you dont then send it back. my personal preference is for acoustic buy Taylor, and for Electric buy Epiphone or Gibson. i use http://www.musiciansfriend.com/ for all of my musical needs. ive bought both my acoustic and my electric from it and the majority of my pedal board so i can say it is a highly trusted site.
Hope this was helpful and good luck

How to tell if a guitar amp speaker has blown?

Posted by admin on June 19th, 2010

I have a Marshall guitar amp. When the volume is on low the sound is perfect. When I turn the volume up it makes a "crackling" sound. Almost as if the sound is being turned up and down constantly. Is this blown or is there another problem.

Try the same scenario with a different electric guitar and guitar chord. If the amp still. Does it then you will know its the amp. The crackling sound you speak of could be a bad chord, or something loose in the electronics path from the pick up to the guitar.

What equipment would I need to set up a home recording studio?

Posted by admin on June 16th, 2010

For rock and metal music mostly. I can get by without recording live drums. What is the best equipment to have for programming drums and tracking guitar and vocals? I already own Pro Tools M-Powered and a condenser mic with a one track interface. What else do I need for a good solid sound? Help me out! Thanks!

you should be set to go if you have a mic an interface and protools. it would all have to be basic recording, you wouldn’t be able to try different mic techniques in order to get a different sound. i think you would be better of with another input and mic so you can use to mics on a guitar amp, but you don’t have to.

the best equipment would mean top of the line everything from guitars, to plug-ins. experimentation is really the best thing you can try.

if i was engineering your session i would probably first set up a basic drum outline. i’ve heard about a program i believe is called "drumagog" or something is good from programming drum tracks. there are a lot of them out there. remember that the higher the price, the better the samples will tend to be. the main point at first would be the timing. however if you are a guitarist and good with time you may be fine just using the click-track. i would then record the guitar then the bass. depending on the sound you want you could either plug into the itnerface via a pedal or something, or mic the amp. personally i like 1 mic on the amp, and one directly into the board and then mixing those two together. you don’t need to do it that way if you can’t, it just might take a little longer to find out what sounds the best to you. repeat that for the bass. then on top of it lay the vocals. for vocals i like recording in a walk-in closet with cloethes on each side and the door shut. i’m not familiar with recording metal vocals so this might not be the best case for you, but its a start at least. and as far as the closet goes, if you want to record the amp, i would do it in a closed off closet as well to get rid or excess noise. playing outside of the closet will be easier on your ears, but thats up to you. after you have that done then i would worry about the drums.

as far as the best program for tracking i would say protools simply because its a staple in most studios. and if you already have it, i would spend money on plug-ins rather than another program to record.

with any studio, if you want better sound go spend money. the mic captures the sound, so if you want a better recording, start with the mic. i’ve heard the Rode NT1a on metal vocals and it was awesome, i highly recommend it. it retails for $240 or soemthing, but i would lump into mics priced 5x that for the sound it produces. also, an extra sm57 or two is always a good idea. the problem with adding mics is that you don’t have the inputs for it. i would recommend looking into a bigger interface (make sure its compatible with protools if you want to continue using it). you can get a bigger interface, and use the software it comes with, and then import the audio files into protools for mixing if you want to do that. a good pair of studio monitors is also a good investment. you can use headphones if you have to, but its easier to mix when you hear the sound breath. headphones close the sound off in my opinion.

i hope this leads you in the right direction. feel free to contact me if i can help any furthur

Avalon guitars? How to purchase one online from their site?

Posted by admin on June 16th, 2010

I love Avalon guitars, they tend to always be used by percussive-acoustic artists, which is a field I’m pursuing…but I want to purchase one safely online (not from e-bay) and can’t seem to figure out how to buy one from their website?

Any help would be appreciated!

Um I’m not sure, but are you talking about these guitars:
