How much is an acoustic guitar?
acoustic guitar November 30th, 2009I want to learn how to play a guitar, but i don’t want to buy a really expensive one or really cheap one. Where can I buy an acoustic guitar for beginners and how much would it cost?
And is it hard to play? I already play the violin and piano.
How long do you think it would take to be ok at it? Do you think being self-taught would be ok?
$199 for a decent starter steel-string acoustic
You need to learn and practice the chords and hand positions.
It takes practice to get used to it. You get calluses on your fingers. But that’s part of it.
You’ll be fine being self-taught. But you have to practice correct habits before they become bad. There are a lot of YouTube videos. Practice songs you like, look up chords @ http://www.ultimate-guitar.com. Also learn how to read tabs.
It really helps to practice with songs you know because you know the tempo and how it sounds. It takes a lot of patience and practice everyday. You’ll do fine.

You can buy one at Costco on line for about $100. It should be pretty easy for a musical soul like you to play but I would get a few lessons to jump start the process

I bought one from The Arts music store but thats in Ontario so it depends. I got a cheap Yahama one for 175 dollars. It was the cheapest one there.
It depends if you take lessons or not. I teach myself and it’s not the guitar itself thats hard, its the songs you want to learn. Taylor Swift songs are fairly easy because she uses the same chords. But another artist could be extremely hard. I’ve been playing since July and have selt taught myself and can play about 4 songs.

They run in a range of prices. Anywhere from like $50 to thousands of dollars. I would say spend about $150 if you are jsut starting, and replace the strings right away. One of the main problems with cheao ones is that they have bad strings and most people don;t change them. So replace them with good strings. If you already play violin and piano you’ll pick up quick. The scales and keys are alot like piano and easy to go back ans forth between. It’s not as easy to play as an electric, but it will teach you better form in the long run.

some guitars are more expensive because of the: quality, features… it depends what you want: if you buy a like 200 dollar one, it means you should be able to keep it forever { some of them only last a year } but if you buy a 90 dollar one, they usually do not last forever and are for younger people { smaller ones to }
i would go for the 200 dollar one! you know… just go to your where you buy your music and ask what they suggest for you! ;]
good luck and hope i help!
ps: prices :
smaller ones: 90-130
medium: 130-170
bigger: 170-240
brand named: 240-300
… there can be like 700 dollar acoustics! it depends on the quality’s!

I play guitar myself; i have been around music my whole life but ive owned 4 acoustic guitars. 2 Ovations, A Classical, and a Suzuki. My favorite are the ovations because they have a built in tuner; I paid one of them $200 (kijiji.ca/com) no case and the other one $420 (long n mcquade) with case. Try kijiji.ca/com or a music store for a little more but you usually can return the guitar if your not happy with it. I found it pretty easy to play.
Hope this helped -Sam.

1. don’t buy a guitar at costco or best buy, they are crap and not even worth the cardboard they are packaged in.
2. spend as much as you can… you are not really going to get anything decent under $350 for an acoustic. If you do, you will sacrifice sound quality and playability and that will totally suck to spend 200 bux and not like the way it plays because it is hard to play and sounds like crap. don’t be cheap.
3.it is hard to play? not if you know how to
it is challenging, just like anything, but if you play violin and piano, then you already know what it takes to learn an instrument, time and determination
4. self taught is fine, sign up for a free membership at my site… and also check youtube and google for tons of free guitar learning information
