Marty starts by showing little riffs you can pick in between chords, and then starting around 5:12, he shows you that you can hammer on notes while strumming the full chords.

 Practice hammer ons within the full open chord strum, AND practice little picking riffs after strumming the chord a couple times (which I personally find to be a harder concept than hammering on during full strums).</description>
