What brand of acoustic guitar to buy for a beginner?
acoustic guitar March 26th, 2010I’m interested in getting an acoustic guitar, and I have no guitar experience at all. I was wondering what guitar brands I should look for, and which ones that would be suitable for guitar newbies. I would be using this guitar to play alot of Beatles music.

Yamaha gigmaker is the only pack I’d buy as i beginner. I personally dont like Epiphone because all they make is Gibson cheapo versions (epiphone was bought out by gibson for that purpose)
Takamine, Seagull, and Washburn are all pretty good
i made up my mind recently, i dont like Ibanez acoustic that are under $650 (retail), they feel weird.
if u have money then try gibson, martin, taylor, breedlove, and upper version of takamine, and seagull
u jerk who gave me a thumbs down, thats kinda petty. this is my opinion. i just dont like the way cheap ibanez’s feel in my hand, nor do i like epiphone, ovations dont feel good either. its not right for me and idc what u say cause its going to be another opinion. so to the asker, u can take all these answers as suggestions on what to look for when you’re shopping. ALWAYS PLAY THE GUITAR 1ST, and NEVER BUY ON IMPULSE. If you dont, yoy might buy something you’d regret later on…

It is an Epiphone EJ160E. It is modeled after the Gibson guitar that John Lennon, and to a lesser extent George Harrison also used. It actually has John Lennon’s signature on the body, pretty cool touch. At $600, it may be a little steep for a beginner, but, at the same time, it does seem like a solid instrument, that actually has an electric pickup as well, you can get some of those early Beatle tones on it, and can experiment with the electric sounds as well.
As a Beatles fan myself, its pretty damn cool. It definitely has the Beatles vibe. I almost wish I had gotten it for my first acoustic guitar, but I imagine the next time I upgrade I will go a Martin.
Edit: I found a demo of this guitar on Youtube, playing a number of Beatles songs. Should give you a pretty good feel for the guitar.

well like other people said, it depends on the price range and how big of a guitar you want. i have a krammer as told by my seller. its a solid guitar and sounds great. But personally i like some Acoustics like Epiphone, Gibson, Krammer, and Lyon. But if you can go to mexico or something they have real good quality acoustics for cheap. so lets see how the info works.

I play mostly electric songs, but I also own an acoustic that I play with friends and let them borrow sometimes. To be honest I can’t tell the difference between my $300 Fender and a $8000 Martin guitar. I know that there is a difference, I know if I had money to spare it would be nice to own, but it all comes down to reputation. Epiphones have a negative stigma because they make affordable versions of Gibson, this doesn’t make them bad.
Anyways, I would stick to brands like Takamine, Ovation, Epiphone, or Fender. They sound great and are best for entry-level guitar playing; especially because you don’t know how much you’ll like it yet.
The best way to do it though is to go to your local guitar store, try out everything in your price range and find something that is comfortable, and that you like. Ask an employee for advice, it’s their job.
The only reason there’s more than one guitar company is because different people prefer different things, there is no single best guitar.

The best thing you could do is go to a guitar store and test drive a bunch of different guitars, since each brand tends to have its own feel. Since you’re a beginner, you’ll probably have an easier time learning on a guitar that has a thin neck and low action (strings really close to the fretboard). Those things will make it much more comfortable to move smoothly between chords.
Ibanez makes fantastic guitars that are built like rocks, sound great and are often nicer than guitars costing twice as much. They’re also famous for their thin necks and low action, which make them popular with beginners, female players and guitarists with small hands. I’ve been playing Ibanez guitars for more than 20 years because they feel like they’re custom made for me (I’m a small-handed female) and none of my Ibanez guitars has ever given me a moment of trouble. Takamine and Jasmine by Takamine guitars are also very user-friendly and have thin necks. Lots of beginners start out using Epiphone guitars, since they’re made by Gibson and are well-made guitars. But Epiphones (and Gibsons, for that matter) have really chunky necks that make them challenging for many people to play.
I’m going to post some links to guitars worth considering, since they’ve got thin necks, low action, and are rated really well by people who own them. Lots of people will tell you it’s impossible to find a decent guitar without spending many hundreds of dollars, but that’s not true. The world is full of guitar snobs who are more hung up on brand names and prices than playability. I bought my first guitar (an Ibanez) second-hand figuring I’d use it to learn and then upgrade to a better guitar. Though I did eventually get more guitars, I still consider the cheap old Ibanez my primary guitar for both recording and playing live because it plays and sounds better than any other guitar I’ve played. And my brother, who owns a recording studio and plays Gibsons and Martins exclusively, has borrowed my trusty old guitar for recording sessions because the sound is incredible. Not bad for a guitar that cost me $100 twenty years ago!

If you handle a bunch of different guitars, chances are some will just feel more comfortable and natural in your hands than others. Trust your instincts, since they’ll serve you better than anyone else’s opinion.
