   Start off with an Epiphone Acoustic. They feel nice, and have a nice ring to them.

   i started off with an ibanez acoustic electric cutaway.. but it was 300 dollars.. i think a yamaha would be great for you! good luck! guitar is stressfull at first.. but once you learn.. you can’t stop playing!

   Honestly if you are learning, any acoustic guitar that works is good. The only thing that matters for a basic level is that the strings stay in tune. You can get them used from pawn shops, from stores like walmart and target, etc. A basic guitar doesn’t have to be any one brand, because if you start with kind of a crummy guitar, then when you upgrade, you learn about and notice the differences between the two.

   If you want a solid basic guitar though, that would be yamaha. Yamaha is a great brand that makes very nice quality intruments that many professionals use (such as alicia keys). Their prices are very reasonable, and they last a long time. Fender is also a good brand, but not really that much better than yamaha, and a little more pricey.

   I would say get a used acoustic to learn on, or a cheap one from walmart or target. If you do want a more solid, nicer guitar to learn on though, then go with yamaha.

   I hae seen Ibanez aocustiocs for 100 but you could look on cragslist and find one for cheeper.

   If you are serious about learning. I would get a takamine…they are priced fairly and have a good sound. An Epiphone is usually a little more expensive than a takamine but it is also a little better in my opinion.

   Gibsons, Taylors, and Martins are really nice but really expensive and a beginner probly shouldn’t buy one for the first guitar.

   my first instinct is to say a big baby taylor they are £300 comes with quality case perfect for travel just sling it on your back and it is such a nice guitar to play especially for beginners it is easy to manage the frett board (light touch) and projects a great sound mainly due to the unique body which has curved wood back for stabillity without the beams inside so it resonates beautifully it looks great, i’m not a taylor salesman i promise but this thing will inspire you to play and it’s a serious guitar for £300. otherwise some charity/second hand shops will be worth a look,

   I suggest just going to a music/guitar store and get a feel for the guitars, hold them, sit down with it and see which feels the most comfortable and if it makes the sound you are looking for. If you are looking to become serious, dont be afraid to spend a little more on a better quality, because you’ll be kicking yourself in the butt thinking "If I had just spent a little more money, I could have gotten something so much better"

   First off let me compliment you for deciding on going the acoustic route. Too many people say "I wanna learn the guitar" go out and buy and electric, but they don’t understand that when you learn on an acoustic it’s so much easier in the long run.

   Now then you want a decent low price guitar.
   My first answer would be Greg Bennett Guitars by Samick. They have some very decent priced great sounding acoustics. The only problem is you wont find them in major stores unless they’re used because they typically only sell to mom and pop music shops. If you’re interested in looking into the Samick models this is a link for dealers in your area.

   My second answer would be Dean guitars depending on which music store you go to they’re typically not high priced (one of my students got a very nice Dean guitar for about $150).

   Those are just a couple of brands for you to consider but really the best thing you can do is go to a music store and look around find a friend that already plays to go with you and have them strum for a little bit on the one you like. Here’s why I tell you to bring a friend:

   I can’t begin to tell you how many students I’ve had that have given up on learning to play for the dumbest reason I can think of. They went out and bought a walmart guitar (you know the ones that are $99) and they don’t understand that those aren’t guitars they’re toys. They don’t stay in tune longer than 5 minutes and that’s if you’re not playing them. One of my students was lucky to get 30 seconds of playing in before the guitar was so far out of tune she couldnt stand it.

   If you really want to learn how to play and I mean REALLY want to don’t set yourself up to be discouraged. Be sure that you get a decent guitar that holds a tune for days at a time (and that’s not really that hard to find). It may cost you $50 more but it’s worth it.

   Once you get the guitar if you need help on where to start I can show you the websites that I taught myself on it’s really not that hard if you know where to look.
