Well rubber band … Well rubber band helps you get used to the technique faster. I’ve always only used 2 fingers, so I automatically move the third finger out of the way. The rubber band forces the finger to stay in position and it also builds finger strength.
I do agree on practicing on a high-action bass though, that helps a lot.
if i learned how to … if i learned how to do this on my own in like 7 months, does that make me good? im not trying to brag, its just i have had no contact with any other bassist, and people tell me im good, but i think im on track w/ everybody else.

I always try to … I always try to kill two birds with one stone,
using open strings apply a 1 string scale and go up the string in 3’s Always the open string and two closed notes following the scale up. Hammer forward going up and pull off descending. That will start you being able to move around with them. Hope that helps and watch for a new video.
