Bass tapping lesson (Introduction)
bass guitars March 2nd, 2010
Hi guys, here’s the lesson that some of you have asked me for. It’s a nice little riff/melody designed to give you an introduction to tapping, and a bit of confidence to carry on to something a little more advanced in the future.
There are many ways and approaches to tapping, but I find this one is the most helpful for beginners in the technique.
Don’t forget, like all of my videos, don’t get frustrated if you can’t do it right away! Start real slow, and build up your ability and confidence. You’re training your brain to understand something new. It takes time…

I have a question. …
I have a question. I have watched victor wooten tap. I’ve seen his brother regi tap on guitar. Both of them, when tapping, have, around the very end of the first fret of their instruments, a sort of pony tail/ hair tie lookin thing. I realized that this was there to keep the extra buzzing and extra faint unwanted note from happening when tapping. So what the heck is this thing?! I have actually used a hair tie and it worked pretty well.. but i want the real deal. if there is such a thing. thanks

I’ve got a question …
I’ve got a question,
is it possible to tap on any bass?
Or do the strings have to have a really low action?
Eg; I’m using the new model of the Fender Jazz deluxe.
Is it possible to tap on that even though it’s more of a ’slap’ bass?

I have a question. …
I have a question. I’m starting tapping now myself. And I find that if I hit the strings like a hammer on in a way. That it’s a lot louder with my index finger than with my middle, is that normal at first? And also, do you have to do it like a hammer on, or can you rest your fingers on the strings then press down when you need too? Because that’s what I’m leaning towards in my playing style and I want to know if it’s right.
