i love the feel of the spector. i do have a generic p-bass style but it just looks like a guitar to me and i dont want to act like one of those posers who want but cant learn guitar and can only play bass. i have a fender bassman combo amp and i am very pleased with that although its starting to cut out on me

Fender basses have …
Fender basses have no tone at all? you must have your ears up your Mr. guitar builder

The perfect way to …
The perfect way to set a Fender Bass is to set it into the garbage can. For one they are ugly, 2 the electronics are cheap pickups put into a piece of PLASTIC, no tone at all. Then the headstock has giant boat paddle flowery looking thingys on it plus the end of the headstock looks like its melting and drooping on the end. I build custom guitars and I believe that this is the ugliest bass hands down. Old car interior wood look pickguard? come on,… question things people!!

Some fretboards are …
Some fretboards are arched. Only in this case would you have the 2nd and 3rd saddles higher than the 1st and 4th. It makes all of the strings the same height off the fretboard that way. You can also use a 64ths ruler and measure the height from the bottom of the string to the top of the 12th fret instead of eyeballing it if you want to get exact.

how can it be …
how can it be proven? although i dont believe he is a bass player..
November 17th, 2009 at 3:46 am
Yes. I’ve never …
Yes. I’ve never heard of having certain strings higher than others, unless you want those strings to play with a higher action.
November 17th, 2009 at 3:46 am
I thought the 2nd …
I thought the 2nd and 3rd saddles were raised,(which would make those strings a little further away from the fretboard)? All 4 saddles should be flush??
November 17th, 2009 at 3:46 am
I’m a little …
I’m a little confused by what you said. The action should the same for all strings. The reason why the first and or second fret rattles is because the amount of force you use to press the string isn’t enough to securely make the sound. Your bass should have a SLIGHT bow in the neck to accommodate for this. All of your strings should be equally spaced from the fretboard.
November 17th, 2009 at 3:46 am
You have to have …
You have to have your action height setup to your liking first correct? should you have the A,D strings setup in an arch fashion to simulate curvature of the fretboard?
November 17th, 2009 at 3:46 am
The open G string …
The open G string should be the same exact pitch as the G on the 12th fret of the same string, just on octave higher.
November 17th, 2009 at 3:46 am
That is inaccurate. …
That is inaccurate. The harmonic will always be in tune (non-tempered). That won’t change with the saddle position. What will change is the pitch of the 12th fret pressed down. The 12th fret harmonic and pressed down should be in tune.
