Which headphones should I get for my guitar amp?

Posted by admin on February 21st, 2010

I have a Peavey Transtube Solo electric guitar amp. One of the features it has is that it provides a headphone jack. Ive tried putting my ipod, psp, and various other headphones into this jack but no sound comes out of the headphones.

I was told this was because it requires headphones of the right impedance. So I was wondering which headphones would work for my guitar amp? A link would also be appreciated.

Go to www.PEAVY.com.I saw the manual and they say that any regular headphones will works.Did your speaker mute when you connect the headphones? If so,then you have a lose wire(the ground wire) of the headphone output jack(inside the amp).

Where can I find a computer based guitar amp OTHER than guitarFX?

Posted by admin on February 19th, 2010

That’s it. I want a realtime guitar amp, free or not, but all I can find is the internet flooded with links to guitarFX but little else. What am I missing?

I have a Line 6 Toneport, which comes with Gearbox modelling software. I like it a lot. I’ve also used Amplitube.

Should I buy a good guitar amp head or guitar first?

Posted by admin on February 17th, 2010

I am an intermediate guitarist and I have an okay guitar and amp combo. I want a Mesa Dual Rectifier head and an ESP SV Standard. I only have enough money for one. Which one should I get first?

Without remarking on my opinion of your choices, I’d say that you should get a good guitar first. Of course that really depends on how adequate your existing equipment is now. Assuming that you can get by with both your existing amp and guitar, I’d go for the guitar of your choice.

Amps come and go, but your guitar is your lady. She inspires you. You caress her with your hands. The amp is just a skirt that makes her look (or sound) good. Find a guitar that makes you feel good and stay with her. And for gosh sakes, don’t choose her for her looks alone. Go to a real guitar store, and play her. Make sure she’s the one. No mail-order brides, please! (sorry musiciansfriend!)

If I want a different sound from my guitar amp?

Posted by admin on February 15th, 2010

If I have a guitar amp that isn’t giving me the metal sound I want, do I just get a pedal and hook it up?

For example, an amp simply has too much of a "crunchy" sound and I want more of a harsh metal sound, do I purchase a stomp box and that’s all? Thanks.

Get the BOSS DS1, not the "bose"

Bugera 6262 Tube Electric Guitar Amp Demo by Armand

Posted by admin on February 13th, 2010

Another off-the-cuff video by Armand.

This amp is quite impressive. Once again Bugera gives you extreme abilities with their wide-sweep knobs. This means that compared to a similar amp, the gain/presence/reverb can be set to a much lower number and achieve the same results as the other. This is very good for having more possibilities of tones or taking that low-output guitar of yours and making it metal!

Head:
* Hand-built 120-Watt amplifier driven by 4 x 6L6 valves (convertible to EL34)
* Classic 2-channel preamp design (Clean, Crunch, Lead) featuring 6 x 12AX7 tubes
* Integrated high-class reverb with dedicated Reverb control for each channel
* Independent Equalizer sections for each channel with dedicated Bass, Mid and Treble controls
* Classic Presence control per channel for awesome sound shaping
* Impedance switch (4, 8 and 16 Ohm) to match virtually any speaker cabinet
* Heavy-duty footswitch for Channel selection and FX Loop function included

Cab:
* With 200 Watts of handling power, this vintage-style tuned cabinet is the perfect complement to virtually any valve head
* Four 12″ heavy-duty BUGERA speakers for ultimate guitar tone
* Switchable 200-Watt, 16-Ohm mono or 2×100-Watt, 8-Ohm stereo mode operation
* Recessed carrying handles and rollers for easy transportation
* Extremely low-resonance and low-vibration cabinet
* Reinforced corners and protective vinyl covering

How do I "kill" a guitar amp’s feedback?

Posted by admin on February 12th, 2010

What do I have to adjust to balance the sound? I just got my new Randall amplifier, after finding out it was my borken cord, and not my old amp that was the problem. My dad saudered the ground wire inside the output end of the cord, but to my dismay the new amp lets out a deafening squeal over my guitar. What could be the problem?

1) Why not replace the cable instead of repairing it just to eliminate it as a possible culprit?
2) Your output may be too high on your guitar or amp, allowing your pickups to, well, pick up the amp’s output.
3) Don’t stand with your guitar facing your amp, especially in confined spaces.
4) When all else fails, order a "Hush Super C" feedback suppressor from Musicians Friend.

Can you recommend a good 5 watt or less tube guitar amp?

Posted by admin on February 7th, 2010

I’m looking for a good tube (valve) guitar amp for home us and some light jamming. I’d prefer 5w or less, and don’t really want to spend more than $750. It can be either a head or combo.

I’m a beginning guitarist, and play blues, 60’s pop, and some rockabilly. NO METAL!
I’m cosidering the Blackheart Little Giant and the Epiphone Valve Junior. Any others?

I just bought an Epiphone Valve Jr, and I love it. It even sounds good through my Marshall stack, without any pedals or other junk that I’ll be playing through it. =)

Have you heard the Fender Champ? That might be a way to go. Their rep is that they’re pretty clean, but sweet. Might be what you’re looking for, but then again, you might want to throw a Tubescreamer into the mix….

How much does an electric guitar/amp cost?

Posted by admin on February 5th, 2010

I’ve been playing guitar for about 5 1/2 mos (without a teacher) , and I already have an acoustic guitar, but I would like an electric. What are some good guitars/amps that are about $100-$250? Also, what other equipment would i need besides the amp and guitar?

you may want to check out some epiphones and lower priced fenders. if you go for and epiphone try not to get a pack unless you have to because they tend to suck. Be sure get an amp that has the features you want such as distortion if you want to play rock and get a static sound or an effects amp that makes a wide range of sounds or if you want a clean sound go for a tube amp. And also you obviously need a cord to plug your guitar into your amp. I recomend finding a guitar store such as guitar center or a smaller place to try out different things before buying them and then once you make a desicion you may want to check out musicians friend or guitarcenter.com if those dont work just google guitar stores and youll get lots of results.
