How to find the musical instruments that bring the orginality and style for someone?

Posted by admin on December 31st, 2009

I just love music and I want to play so many instruments, but how I would someone figure out what instruments they can really shine with and find the ones that really fit them?

Just go to a music store and play around with some of the instruments. Find friends that have different instruments you can try. If you go to a school you can sneak into the music room and play some stuff as well. Also think about what instruments you pay attention to most while listening to music. Then you can decide on what instrument you want to actually buy.

What new musical Instruments were invented in the United States?

Posted by admin on December 28th, 2009

any musical instuments that have been invented in the United states would be great. Thank you.

Well, the sousaphone was presumably invented by or named after John Philip Sousa. I imagine it’s American.

I imagine we might also be responsible for one or another of the various banjos, and a funny guitar with a metal sounding board called a dobro. There’s also the autoharp.

We’re probably also guilty of things like the banjolele and similar combination instruments.

Can somebody identify the musical instruments in this Botero painting?

Um… I see a Tuba, basoon, Violin, Cello, and a Clarinet…I’m not sure what the guitar-like intruments in the front are though.

What musical instruments can you make at home with things you have at home?

Posted by admin on December 23rd, 2009

Babysitting my little nephews again tonight. I promised them that we would stay up late and do something. We decided that we are going to make musical instruments by hand, so they can come up with their own band when they go home. I want to make them from things around the house. Anyone got any ideas?

Make a bucket bass with a plastic bucket, a piece of nylon rope and a broom handle. Turn the bucket upside down, fasten the broom handle to the side, put a hole in the center of the bucket, run the rope through the hole and tie it to the top of the broom handle, put one foot on the bucket to hold it still and lean the broom handle to put tension on the rope and pluck it. Good luck!

You can also take a comb, wrap it with wax paper and hold it to your mouth and sort of hum on it, makes a weird but musical sound.

How many musical instruments are there in the world?

Posted by admin on December 20th, 2009

i keep wondering how many musical instruments are there??

There are hundreds of different kinds of musical instruments in the world.Musical instruments can be classified on the basis of the kind of instrument: chordophones (strings), aerophones (woodwinds and brasses), idiophones (percussion), and membranophones (drums).

Stringed instruments or chordophones are those that produce sounds when a string is plucked or strummed. The kind of sound produced depends on the mass of the string, length of the vibrating portion of the string, tension in the string, and the point at which the string is strummed apart from the kind of resonating cavity in the instrument. Viola, violin, cello, guitar, mandolin, fiddle, harp, lute, banjo, balalaika, koto, ukulele, etc. are some of the string instruments.

Woodwinds and brasses generate music when air enters the instrument by blowing. The kind of music depends on the method of tone production, the shape of the instrument, the length of the column of air in addition to the construction of the instrument. Flute, piccolo, clarinet, oboe, horn, mouth organ, saxophone, and bassoon are some of the winds instruments, while the French horn, tuba, trumpet, and trombone are brass instruments.

Percussion instruments produce sounds when struck. Some percussion musical instruments include the cymbals, the snare drum, bells, gong chime, xylophone, the bass drum, maracas, castanet and the timpani.

Drums include the goblet drums, the barrel drum, the frame drum, the tambourine, and the friction drum.

Other kinds of musical instruments are the piano, keyboards, organ, harpsichord, and the Glockenspiel.

How to make home made musical wind instruments?

Posted by admin on December 18th, 2009

I am trying to make home made musical wind instruments with some kids, and have heard you can make a straw oboe – but when I try it I can’t get it to make noise. If anyone has any instructions on how to make any type of wind instrument please let me know – must be able to build with children 7-10 (where they can make it themselves). Thanks :)
Thats the site that I have, but when I try to make the straw oboe it doesn’t work. I’m not able to get the materials for the other instruments. Any other ideas?

Ok, I tried it. It didn’t work at all at first, but after I cut it to about 2 or 3 in., once I blew really hard, I got short bursts of noise. You really have to constrict you diaphram to do it though, so I’m sure if little chlidren would manage to blow hard enough. Ok, I just made it about an inch and now it makes a higher pitched noise and is easier to blow! So try that. With the one in, try to keep your lips tight. Hope it helped!

In a beach wedding, which is better: a choir or musical instruments?

Posted by admin on December 15th, 2009

for the musical instruments, i’m thinking string quartet or if it’s not available, violin and flute will do.

which is more beautiful and more appropriate for the occasion? voices or music?

tnx.
this is for the ceremony only.

Music definitely. I attended once a beach wedding and they didn’t have much music, only a harpist, it was just enthralling. Or you can hire an acoustic guitar player or a group that can play drums, bongos, maracas if the wedding requires a tropical theme. The only thing is, some musicians are hesitant to play on the beach because sand can get into and damage their instruments.

Best wishes!

What’s The Best Way To Preserve Musical Instruments?

Posted by admin on December 12th, 2009

My dad left me some musical instruments: 3 fiddles, a mandolin, and 3 guitars. The guitars are valuable, the others I don’t know. None have been played in at least 5 years. What is the best way to store them? Should the strings be loosened/removed? Should they be kept in their cases(they’re awfully musty now)? I have an empty closet, should I keep them in there? Thanks.

loosen the bows and strings for all of them. you don’t necessarily have to remove them, it will just make a lot more work for you down the road if you decide to play them. with all wood instruments, they swell and shrink with the humidity. as long as you keep them all in hard coated cases the weather shouldn’t affect them. if you go to any music store, they have polish for wood instruments that dusts AND cleans without wrecking the varnish.

good luck!

What are the best places to find used musical instruments, particularly in or around Liverpool?

Posted by admin on December 10th, 2009

I’m looking to get an electric bass but I’m having trouble finding a shop that carries used musical instruments. In the US, I would typically just go to pawn shops and see what they had in hand, but pawnbrokers here don’t appear to deal in musical instruments. Can you tell me what kind of shops I ought to be looking for, or else give me the websites of some UK companies that sell used musical instruments?

Try Cash Converters, also buy Guitarist magazine and look at the classifieds in the back. Also try buying the Liverpool Loot classifieds paper.

You could also trawl around music shops but you are relying on trade ins. If you are looking for a particular bass, it might be worth leaving your name and number with some music shops.
