The sustainer is …
The sustainer is its own pup. And when it goes on, it will shut off everything except the magnetic field off of the sustainer, and the bridge pup will be on, to pick up the harmonics.
So, if you had a bucker on the neck, the sustainer will be a single coil, and it will shut off the other coil, and if you have anything in the middle.

I have this guitar, it’s a great axe, but I use the sustainiac very rarely.. one reason is because it gets flat in no time… might be something i do but… that’s my problem.

Its the neck pickup …
Its the neck pickup which works as a sustainer because it is really a driver not a pickup. You can change the other pickups though.
