I still haven’t …
I still haven’t been able to find tube tones that sound as good as my solid state fender m-80. M-80 is tight, warm, and basic. I’ve spend lots of time and money on tube amps. Waste of time. Only tube amps that sound good are retarded expensive.

Not all tubes go in …
Not all tubes go in 3 or 4 years, a friend of mine worked for the military and hand wired tube radios and amps and he has guitar tubes and tubes as big as a human head that have been in operation for over 50 years, they still sound great!

I play a tube amp. …
I play a tube amp. classic 30. I love the sound and feel of a tube amp. However, I have read blind tone tests where the difference from SS is almost indistinguishable in heavily distorted and clean tones. Tubes truly shine in semi- distorted tones. This is the area where people were able to tell the difference in the tests.

I have a Boss GT-8 …
I have a Boss GT-8 plugged into a Marshall MG250 and there are 3 compressors on it. One is the more commonly known Boss CS compressor just like the stomp box version. There is also an “Advanced Compressor” which is a modified CS compressor. The most versatile is the “Limiter”. Its actually not just a limiter, its a full blown studio compressor with type, attack, threshold, ratio, release. Makes a huge improvement on a standard solid state tone. Not sure if many people realize its even there.

Response to …
Response to GeneralMeekis–
Ditto. When I made the switch from solid states to tubes (wayyy back when I was moving from beginner studies to more advanced things, and generally started giving a care about tone) it always seemed to me tubes gave some breath and livelyness to the note attack. SS amps just sounded so flat in comparison.

can tubes break when you never move your amplifier but just play (too) loud?
And is it really nessesary to change the tubes every year?
